How to connect your TV to the computer

Do you dread over the idea of watching movies on your laptop or computer. Does it sound weird and u just hate the idea of it. But let me tell you there is actually a great way to watch the *TONS* of entertainment stuff available online these days. And the best part is - trust me on this - saves you a lot of money !! And it is easy - just connect your TV to the computer and watch stuff online.

If you are thinking, even if i connect the TV to the computer, where in this confused web am i going to find shows/movies online. For that read the article - How to watch movies online . First lets see how you can connect the TV to the computer

connect TV to the computer

* Check if your computer/laptop has an S-Video output. Most of the computers or laptops have them.

* Check if your TV has S-video input. Again, most of the TVs have it, unless its really old.

S-Video socket

* Now buy an S-video cable from your nearest electronic store. or buy one from amazon like this one:

* Connect the TV and computer using the S-Video cable.

Display the computer signal on TV
Here is the complicated part- how would you actually show the stuff on the computer appear on the TV for this:

* On your computer, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Display -> Screen -> Turn ON TV -> Apply/OK
* On your TV change the video input to S-Video(if there is one) or just try any video input (video1, video2, video3 or video4)

If your computer resolution changes, dont worry about it. You can always change it back to the normal one.

Getting the Sound

What about the sound -- You would note that the sound is still coming from the computer and not the TV. This is because the S-video cable is only a video cable and doesnt transfer sound. So you have the following two options for the Audio:

* Watch the video on TV and have the listen to the sound from your computer speakers
* if you have one of those bigger computer speakers then connect them and put them around you TV (that way you dont really feel that the sound is coming from somewhere else)
* Connect your computer's audio output to TV's audio Input using a "Audio Cable" - you can buy these from any electornics store.

Get an HDTV !!
And all this looks much better if you have a great HDTV to watch it on. Then you can do all this with a single HDMI cable
